Over the last two years some bus companies seem to have abandoned the more remote routes and other, smaller companies, have been incorporated in with larger bus companies. The information below is as correct as I can manage at the time of writing (April 2022) but walkers will need to make their own checks, as well.
ALSA — connects Cáceres to Salamanca

Car hire in Extremadura
For anyone coming to Cáceres by bus there is a car hire office in the bus station which is 200m from the train station. The office hours are Monday-Friday 8.30-13.30 and 16.30-19.30 which means the office shuts 15 minutes before the evening train gets in from Madrid — but check on the web site for changes. On Saturday the office opens from 9.00-13.00 and it’s shut on Sunday.
